Hoped the last journal would be my one and only foray into politics, but then news came to me about ACTA and I repeatedly smashed my head against my desk.
ACTA:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-Cou…It's basically SOPA's big bad European cousin. Because of the fuss kicked up by PIPA and SOPA, ACTA managed to slip under the radar. In January, it was signed by the EU and 22 member states. Not good.
Stop ACTA info site:
www.stopacta.info/The signing of ACTA by the EU doesn't mean that the agreement has passed: it still has to be ratified by the European Parliament. In June 2012, members of the European Parliament will vote to either ratify or reject ACTA.
Read here about how to influence your MPs to vote against ACTA:
www.laquadrature.net/wiki/How_…If you cannot do anything else, at least spread the word. ACTA has not received the publicity or media attention that SOPA did, and people can only act against the agreement if they are aware of it. This is not just an isolated problem within the EU, nor is it an isolated problem within the US: this affects all of us globally.
